Good nutrition is essential for any type of physical exertion and that includes the practice of yoga asanas. But in yoga the idea of nutrition is extended to include the practice of yoga and meditation, so we need a well balanced diet that is not only conducive to the physical, but also mental health.
The scheme which we aspire as yogis or yoga practitioners known as Sattvic diet and we talk a lot in the ancient Indian scriptures known as the Bhagavad Gita. The sattvic diet can be interpreted as a pure power.
A key lesson of yoga philosophy is ahimsa or nonviolence. The teachings of ahimsa are related to the fact that our thoughts and actions create karma - so if we think and act in a conscious, quiet and peaceful, we create karma so that surround us and influence the world around us in a good way.
